Staycation Vacation

on April 19, 2013

Sometimes, when it’s vacation time, you don’t get to go anywhere.  You just get to stay at home.  So what do you do when you stay at home and it’s vacation time?  Depending on what time of year it is, there’s things you can do to make your staycation vacation almost as much fun as a going away vacation.

If it’s wintertime and you can’t go away to someplace like Hawaii or Florida or Jamaica (that’s where Aaron always wants to go for a winter vacation and someday, I think he’s going to get to go there), you don’t have to let snowdrifts make you sad.  Make Hawaii or Florida or Jamaica come to you.

First, you have to get lots of posters of the place you wish you were and put them up all over the place.  Then you have to get music that sounds like the music you would hear at the place you wish you were.  If you’re lucky and have a older brother or two, you can probably get them to share their CDs with you so you have lots and lots of the right kind of music.  And then you have to make it look like the place you wish you were.

If I wanted to be in Florida, I would move my mom’s coffee table over to the side of the livingroom, and then I’d put the plastic summer chairs in different places in the livingroom, with big bath towels on the plastic summer chairs.   Once you have all that ready to go, you can make a great big pitcher of lemonade from a can and drop ice cubes and lemon slices in it.  Sounds like a vacation in Florida, right?

But you can’t have a Florida vacation without lots of hot weather, so when you have everything ready for your Florida staycation vacation, get in your bathing suit and turn the thermostat up to ninety degrees.  If you get too hot, get cold water in the shower going, jump in and jump out.  Then go back to your Florida staycation vacation plastic chair, pour a glass of lemonade, sit back and relax.

Now, if you want to know how to have a Alaska staycation vacation, just let me know and I can tell you how to do that, too.

Oh, and just so you know … if you do a Hawaii or Florida or Jamaica staycation vacation, you’re going to have to put some time in your schedule for a really long time-out in your bedroom.  Not because you want to be in your bedroom.  But because you’re probably going to get into a lot of trouble with your mom when she finds out who planned the tropical staycation vacation.

Great idea, Missy. I think however you should think of a really good excuse/reason for the furniture arrangement, so your mother goes easy on your time-out.

I believe that Missy plans to run with your suggestion, ArtieQ. In fact, she already discounted one idea she had: The coffee table had to be moved so no one would bang their head on the corner when they dive into the couch.

I’m sure by the end of the day, she’ll have one or two good reasons figured out in case she needs to use them. 🙂
